This weekend, I sanded down some pretty obvious rust bubbles on the passenger-side rear fender lip. I discovered, unsurprisingly, bondo-filled holes just above the lip. I’ve also got rust holes in the leading edge of the hood that I’d like to nip in the bud.

Now, I have never done bodywork start-to-finish, so I’m unsure of where to begin. I don’t want to jump into this whole-hog and start media blasting the body down to nothing and repainting, I’d just like to repair the immediate rust and keep it from coming back. I don’t mind driving around with primer spots for a while, either, as prettiness doesn’t take priority over stabilization and getting her into tip-top driving shape.

Suggestions on where to start learning? Or just what to do? A book or advice would be preferable, as I don’t really have the time and money to be taking classes.

Rust repair , the only way to stop it once it starts is to replace the panel. Or you can cut the bad out and replace it with a piece of metal. Cut the bad out with a cut-off wheel , make your patch fit the hole grind around hole and patch and weld in.Grind weld add filler we call it filler not bondo. Sand with 80 grit down to 150-180, then prime. Use a epoxy primer on the bare metal then a good surfice primer over all . Hope this will help you.
