What rear suspention set up would be better ladder bar or CalTrac slit monos with there bars? My Nova is going to see a little more street than strip, about 200 street miles a month and see the 1/4 mile once a month.

I hear that Caltracs are a no-no for the street. It's not that you cant use them, but from users have said...theyre not the greatest for anything other than straight line.

it depends on if your trying to fit the car into any certain class.
or if you plan to race in bracket racing events.
some heads up classes only alow "Bolt Ons"
that would include caltracks, and split monos'.

from what I hear......
the calracts are the Shit!!!

get them with the split mono's,and adjustable shocks ,and your good to go!!

Yes they are a bit more ruff do drive on the street....but ....I think
you can give a little street manners...for a bit more better times at the strip.

I mean...some say that you shouldn't take off your front swaybar, and have 90/10 shocks on the street...
I say..... to each his own!!

I myself feel it is better to give up a bit of streetableity(is that a word? )
for a better car at the strip....
I can goo around corners on state street at a slower speed, but when I'm
at the strip I want it all to hang out!

thats the way I've always been.

Question:
If you do plan to go to a ladder bar set up,would you also be planing on going to a set of coil over shocks as well?

I'd stay with what you already have...the caltacts, and split mono's...I think that you will like them very much.

are you rumming a slider on the rear of the springs?
or a shackel?
if your running a shackel ,stepping up to a slider will help as well.

I've seen cars like your running into the 7's on split mono's,and caltrcts, and on drag radials to boot!!

thats my plan on my camaro(caltracts, and split mono's),but first I'm going to use my traction bars, till I can save up a bit more money....

my car is set up engine wise to go high 9's...
so i want it to do it.

My Cars
'80 Camaro.....out When ? When it's Done!
'66 Chevy II Due Out... Whenever....

One thing to remember with any type suspension that you choose , it will only perform as well as its installed/setup . Prime example ......... i have 3 friends . 2 with 67 and one with a 68 camaro. All have the Cal-Tracs and all 3 cars hook differently...... i know , i know .......... no 2 cars are created equal ..... odd thing is ....... one car runs mid 9's ,one runs high 9's and the 3rd car runs mid 10's . the mid 9's car hooks the best . high 9 car next and the slower of the 3 running mid 10's hooks the worst .... seems to me its all in the chassis tuner ......personaly i'd go with the ladder bar and coil overs ....... but thats just me , i used to have that set up before i went to a 4 link set up and the ladder bars worked far better than my slapper bar set up . And when i had a 4 link installed , it totaly blew me away how much better it was over the ladder bars . My car now hooks at any track i have been too ,and early and late season track temps causing traction problems are a thing of the past . My chassis guy is amazing , the amount of ET that is hidden in the suspension of a car is mind boggling .I have a very mild (small) big block (468) it has aftermarket Protopline iron heads right out of the box , with just a competition valve job( zero port work) , out of the box Edelbrock 454R intake , 13 to 1 SRP pistons , eagle rotating assembly , Lunati solid roller cam 270/ 276 @ .050 duration , lift is .710/ .710 and its on a 110 lobe sep. Its about a $5,500 engine minus the $1,000 APD 950 carb lol and the car weighs 3,300 and has run a best of 10.07 @ 132mph , and 6.40 @ 108 mph in the 1/8 ..... not to shabby for a mild 468 in a 3300 lb car . I firmly believe that without the suspension and the exelent chassis setup and tunning by "The Fab Shop " AKA "Bright Shiney White Racing " the car wouldn't be running the #'s that it is with the HP this engine is making ....
