Ya know... I think someone up above is out to get me.

5,700 miles. Coolant getting into the engine oil at a rapid rate. Can smell it in the exhaust.
Reference the attached photos. I drove this bitch 3 times this year.

Jumbo - have you worked on any LS based motors, or have you heard of common head gasket problems?
Wondering if there's a GM fix gasket, or if I should go to a multi-layer Trick-Flow gasket.
I know this isn't going to be a cheap or easy fix...so I only want to do this once.

At year 5 I flushed all Dexcool out, and switched to Prestone All Make, All Model long life coolant. I think the dexcool ate the snot out of my head gaskets over the 5 years that it sat.

Any info is appreciated - and help with a hoist...since this is not going to be an easy job.

Is the car using coolant by pics is that color of the anitfrezze or clear. and is the oil over full make sure the pcv sys is working. I checked one site only thing I found was to replace head bolts when you replace heads or gaskets will check a few more sites.

By the look of it, it was orange and green, as if I didnt get all of the dexcool flushed out of the system. (I flushed it twice)

I thought it was condensation, but with the smell in the exhaust I was leary.
I took it up for gas before parking it...and I got on the car hard.
Brought it home, and the filler neck had a chocolate milk cream look around it, classic to a head gasket/manifold gasket leak.

If I get some time this weekend, I'll do a compression test and see if I can get an exhaust chemical test to see if it picks up coolant in the exhaust fumes.

Thanks Man. Good article.

Dumb question though...

I didnt see anything about the cam break in procedure. Apparently they don't do that on newer motors?
(The old "As soon as the car starts, rev the engine to 2000 rpm for 20 minutes").

That's cool, if that's the case.
Looks like this is my winter project.

It is A roller Cam
no break in needed!

It's a roller cam there is no break in. Thats why you just use oil on the lifter when put in. So you don't have a dry start.

I put new oil in it this spring.
Drove it to BC and back. Water came back in the cap.

Going to pull the plugs to see if I have a clean one per Jumbo's advice.
