TWO NIGHTS OF RACING AT NMD THIS WEEKEND
Kaleva-
Racing enthusiasts have been waiting patiently for this upcoming weekend at Northern Michigan Dragway. The first "After-Hours Street Drags Under the Lights" event will be held Friday night.
The event will feature open time trials and grudge racing from 8 p.m. until midnight, STILL ONLY $5 race or watch. The popular "smokey burnout contest" is also scheduled for Friday night at dusk.
Saturday night's racing action will feature the first bracket race night of the season with a full race program scheduled. The points champions from 2007 will be defending their crowns. Corey Mikus of Kaleva took first place in Bracket I points over 2nd place finisher, Ron Hagar of Clark Lake last season. In Bracket II, Bob Geer of Charlevoix took a narrow championship margin over Bear Lake's Rich Mardlin.
In Junior Eliminator, Leigh Ann Walters of Traverse City took a one-round championship run-off victory over Thompsonville's Bruce Douglas. Two new Jr. dragsters have been testing this season, which should make things more interesting in this division.
Time trials are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday with elimination rounds scheduled for 6 p.m.
