Larry Larson Enters Nova in Comp Eliminator at NHRA Topeka National Event, Will Drive Car to and From Track!!
By Brian Lohnes Posted 05/17/11 Just when you thought that Larry Larson could not elevate himself to another plane of coolness, this happens. In what has to be a first in the modern era of drag racing, Larry Larson has entered his world beating 1966 Chevy II into Competition Eliminator at the NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Summer Nationals to be held at Heartland Park Topeka this weekend! This is something that Larry told us he wanted to do about a year ago, and not being one to make idle threats, the crazy bastard is bringing the noise in just a few days!
Larry is running the car in the AA/AT (Double A/Altered Turbocharged) category and will compete with the mufflers bolted on. The best part is that he is driving the six second rocketship to and from the track. We're not sure if he'll be pulling a trailer or if he'll go totally off his rocker and run the car on the tires he rolls in on.
Imagine the gate rent-a-cop when Larry pulls up. "Sir, spectator parking is over there."
"Spectator? F-That! I'm racing! Outta my way, kid!"
What'll it run? Who the hell knows. For starters, everyone knows that it is capable of running in the six second range, something Larry has done a bunch of times now. One difference is that none of those laps were made on tracks having NHRA national event level prep.
We'll be pouring over the results this weekend and harassing Larson for quotes as he tries to dole up humble pie to the assembled ranks of Competition Eliminator hitters!

Even a Mopar die-hard like me is impressed with Larry and that car. He drives the @#$% out of it as well,which pegs the kool-o-meter. Go get 'em Larry!
