Not sure I follow this thread but why do people overlook GM crate motors? $2200.00 will buy you a brand new 3.8, warranty and change. I wouldn't by a rebuilt on a bet.

1. Because a Reman motor was purchased and only lasted 60K miles, then wore out due to not being machined correctly - common with new crate and remans.

2. It's only warranteed if GM puts it in. Otherwise, 90 days, too bad too sad.

3. A reman long block Costs $2400 from GM plus tax.
A NEW 3800 series II Vin K Costs $4017.47, plus tax and a $200 core.
Already checked it before I ventured onto this project from hell.

Reman's in general are just taboo based on my experience, and others that I have talked to. Your actually better off finding a yard motor - Considered an "A" motor, VS a reman - considered a "B" motor.
If....IF you can find one....

Believe me...if it were that easy, I would have done it already.

Closure to this thread.

Bought a 3800 from All American Auto Parts in Sterling Heights, with a warranty for 1 year. Had 50K miles on the clock.
Put it in, in May of 08. Car totalled by mom's new squeeze in August. Now sitting at her place as a lawn ornament.
