Hello!

Well as long as I've regsitered might as well post an appeal.

The Mid Michigan Motorplex was originally known as Central Michigan Dragway. It opened in 1954 ... UNPAVED!

As I'm considering writing a book covering those early drag racing days, I'm wondering if you folks might contact other geezer-class follks from that day (or the grandchildren of such) to see if any photos from those early days still exist?

Should you locate something please contact me at: jon@autovaluz.com.

Thank you,
Jon Lundberg, VODR (Ret.)

While I was out at the mid michigan motorplex
has to been at least 8 years ago,you were anouncing
for the nmca,or nsca, one of them...anyways...while there where oil
downs and such you would tell stories about the old days of being there, and one I remember was you talking about racing there before it was paved, and there was a jet dragster there that weekend, and as he was about to make his pass,a cop car decides to pull up and check out the action.

well then you told of what happend next.....
the cop car gets pelted with stones being thrown at the cop car.

Yup, happened in 1960. About the dozenth run on the first jet car Walt Arfon's "Jet Green Monster" driven by Fort Wayne, IN, Phys-Ed instructor Nook Bakewell.

Later that year Leslie's E J Potter made his first ride there on the original "Bloody Mary" Chev-powered cycle.

Great years!
