Kaleva-
Race fans are in for an exceptional treat this weekend with the 4th of July showdown. No group is preparing harder than the SuperCharged Thunder blown nostalgia exhibition members. Several of the race teams will be coming in Friday afternoon, getting their race cars out for display at Friday's Night Moves event, and preparing for their showdown Saturday night.
At least one entry will be bringing extra exposure to Saturday night's main event, as the "Dragon Slayer" 1933 Willys from Grand Rapids is planning to be towed through the Manistee National Forest Festival parade on Saturday morning, and likely display somewhere in Manistee shortly afterwards. Other area displays are in the works.
The SCT race teams always make their events extra special, as they are available for autographed posters and t-shirts and other fun interaction with the crowd, especially for the kids. They also plan to have a great fireworks display on the racetrack to provide even more excitement on top of their wild racing show - with speeds sure to top 150 miles per hour.
In addition to Steere's entry, another sure-to-be fan favorite will be the "BLASTRO" Pro-Modified 1985 Chevy Astro Van from Westerville, Ohio. On the "BLASTRO" web site, it says this is "the baddest van in the world, and ten other planets."
Other Ohio entries will include Jamie Palmer with a '37 Chevy, Tom Glick with the "Helter Skelter" '32 Bantam Roadster, Scott Quizenberry with a '55 Chevy, Pat Quizenberry with a '40 Willys, Al Lee with "The Punisher" 23T, and Scott Braskett's '53 Corvette.
Rounding out the show will be the NMD track record-holding 1963 Corvette "Dixie Hustler," driven by Jason Icenhower of Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Friday night's racing will begin with time trials at 7 pm, with Night Moves eliminations set for 9 pm. Saturday night will feature bracket racing time trials at 6 pm, and eliminations set for 8 pm. Supercharged Thunder qualifying and competition rounds will begin shortly thereafter and into the late evening hours.
For further information about this weekend's event, see the NMD web site or call (231)362-3439.
